So here it is Saturday again. Are you enjoying some rest today? I’m loving the thought of an extra day this weekend. Glad we have Monday off.
The goal on these Satisfied Saturday posts is to look back through the week and think about something that we can be thankful for. This week, I am thankful for some things that happened this week, but I actually want to look back a little bit further than this week. I’ll start with this week though.
Looking back on this week, I’m thankful for….
-a principal who understands special ed and who allows our team to meet the needs of kids creatively.
-teammates who “get it.” We work so well together. I had an experience this week that reminded me that that’s not always the case. So, I’m thankful for my teammates.
-my family who loves spending time together and who makes it a priority to try to connect throughout the week-whether it’s a phone call or text or a note.
Now I’m going to move a bit further back than this week. This week marks the 7th anniversary of a really tough week at my church. We lost a young elder in a car accident and then 4 days later, we lost our young youth pastor to a heart related incident.
Yesterday, I shed some tears as I remembered these godly men who had such an impact on our church in the short time they were there. I’m thankful for both of them.
I’m thankful for their wives and children who allowed God to work through them in the midst of an extremely hard situation.
I’m thankful for the body of Christ that shone during that time. As I look back, I remember the way the body stepped up and supported the families but also others in the body as we all grieved together. We were in a kind of unique situation as we all learned about grief together.
I’m thankful for God’s presence and His comfort.
This song by Bill Gaither came to mind last night…
“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!”
I’m thankful that Jesus lives and that He loves us enough to put other people in our lives to support us and encourage us and grieve with us.
I’m thankful that God takes us through hard times to help us trust Him more.
What are you thankful for?
